Maricopa City and Pinal County Booking
Maricopa Police transport arrestees to the Pinal County jail in Florence. The county's online inmate search is currently paused due to the Houston v. Maricopa County ruling from 2024. This Ninth Circuit decision affected how agencies publish mugshots and inmate information online. Call the jail at 520-213-8553 to check on someone in custody.
Phone staff can confirm custody status, charges, and bond amounts. This is the primary way to get booking info while online tools are unavailable. Staff answer calls during business hours and can provide current custody information. They can also tell you bond amounts and scheduled court dates. Keep the booking number handy if you have it since this speeds up the lookup.
The City of Maricopa does not have its own jail. All arrests result in transport to the county facility in Florence. The drive takes some time given the distance. Recent arrests may not show up immediately because the booking process must complete first. See the Pinal County page for more details about the county jail and records.
Arizona Booking Records Law
Arizona law establishes the right to access booking records. ARS 39-121 requires that public records be open for inspection during office hours. This includes police reports, arrest logs, and booking information. City of Maricopa records fall under this requirement.
The statute at ARS 41-1750 addresses criminal history information. It creates an exemption for police blotters and original records of entry. Daily arrest logs are public under this provision. The law also allows contemporaneous release of arrest information. This means agencies can disclose booking data soon after an arrest without waiting for case resolution.
Certain information must be withheld. Victim names and contact details get redacted under ARS 13-4434. Juvenile records stay confidential. Active investigation files may be held until cases close. These exemptions apply to Maricopa City records just as they do elsewhere in Arizona.
Note: The Houston ruling affects online publication of mugshots but does not change public records law for in-person requests.
